Episode 1: The #1 problem with mainstream medicine

First, let's talk about the elephant in the room: doctors are not trained in vitamins, minerals, or nutrition.
You may find this shocking, considering the vital role that nutrition plays in our overall health.

A survey showed people still rank doctors #1 as their go to for nutrition advice.
Most doctors get less than 20 hours (!!!!!) of nutrition training in 4 years of med school (most of which is clinically irrelevant... like what causes scurvy -- except the joke's on me because scurvy has made a comeback, I am not joking.

While studying to become a naturopath (back in 2010), doctors were concerned about a new potential disease, because university aged students were coming in with bleeding gums and loose teeth; it turned out to be vitamin C deficiency (scurvy) from a diet of processed foods)!

Ok, back to a lack of training.
Do you know that many doctors get no nutrition training at all?!

In fact, only a third of medical schools even offer the recommended 25 hours (which is also a joke).

You've been brainwashed to think they have all the answers, but it's unrealistic to expect them to properly guide you when they quite simply weren't given the tools.

According to the recent Global Burden of Disease Study of 195 countries, dietary factors are the single leading cause of death, an even greater health burden than smoking. Chew on that for a minute! are you surprised that 40% of kids are overweight, 75% of adults are overweight, and 93% are metabolically unhealthy?

The report showed medical students' nutrition knowledge and their confidence in counselling you were low across the board, as was their perception of both the quality and quantity of their nutrition education. The study found that med students' interest in nutrition is high, but typically wanes by the time of graduation.

It's easy to imagine why. When medical students dont see nutrition being incorporated into their curriculum and don't see their clinical mentors using nutrition, vitamin or mineral interventions in their care plans, what else would they think?

A global need exists for doctors to understand the strong connection between nutrition and health.

For example, in the past 30 years, diabetes has nearly doubled globally and today 1 in 3 people will get cancer.

As aptly described in the review, “a poorly trained medical workforce can be viewed in and of itself as one structural contributor to diet-related disease.”

But what is already crystal clear, is that the worldwide state of nutrition education in medicine is inadequate. You deserve much better. And so does our planet.

Another issue is the profit-based nature of medicine since its shift to pharmacology (aka the study and use of drugs).

Unfortunately, many pharmaceutical companies prioritize profits over patient health. They produce medications with harmful side effects or overlook natural remedies that could be just as effective but don't bring in as much profit.

Even the Guardian published an article on it back in 2018: Why modern medicine is a major threat to public health. It goes on to say that "Most patients will derive no health improvement from medication. We should tackle the root causes of disease instead." Ummmm, absolutely.

Wouldn't you expect this to be the focus of healthcare and medicine by now, especially when the greatest stress on the healthcare system comes from managing almost entirely preventable chronic conditions such as heart disease, high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes?

The decline of holistic medicine is a major concern.

In the past, natural remedies and alternative medicine were widely accepted and even preferred. However, with the rise of modern medicine, holistic practices have been pushed to the side when we need them more than ever. The government's even retracted health fund rebates for naturopaths and complementary medicine practitioners making it even less accessible!

With the increase in chronic diseases, it's important we use proven strategies that don't cause more harm than good. (This is why I love the work that I do!)...
Bring back the days when medicine reflected the Hippocratic oath, "First, do no harm".

Now before I wrap this up, let's talk about the importance of not just nutrition, but one step deeper: the importance of minerals.

Minerals are essential nutrients (like iodine, copper, selenium and so on) that your body needs to live but cannot produce on its own. These nutrients play a role in strengthening bones, transporting oxygen, detoxing chemicals and heavy metals, improving muscle, heart and brain health, and maintaining a healthy immune system.

Minerals are also key components for making enzymes and hormones. Minerals are life!

However, you, like everyone else, are operating sub-optimally, at best. Even health conscious people have mineral deficiencies because you do not get enough minerals in your food and they are rapidly used up when stressed.

These deficiencies lead to health issues that your doctor won't pick up on (things like like subclinical hypothyroidism, manifesting as low energy, brain fog, unexplained weight gain, cold hands and feet, low body temps, depression and so on).

If they run blood tests, it'll only be TSH (insurance companies deny further investigation unless warranted), and you'll still be within their acceptable range. "Everything is fine, It's all in your head!"

The inadequacy of our healthcare system is a multifaceted issue that requires our attention. We need to demand better training for our healthcare providers, prioritize natural remedies over profit, reconsider the value of holistic medicine, and ensure we are receiving the necessary minerals through our food and using proper supplementation.

What is it costing you expecting your doctor to be responsible for your health?

Do you really want to end up another statistic, especially if you're trusting someone with your life that hasn't been trained in the essential nutrients required for your cells to function, which trigger your innate ability to heal?!

If you want to upgrade your quality of life with a simple, proven framework to restore the energy and clarity of your youth in less than 2 minutes a day, come join us in Antidote. It's the fastest way to restore your cellular health (without any lab tests or restrictive diets).
